For ‘Plenty of Fish’ I wanted to start my year of releases off on a brighter note. Taking influence from Zack Fox, Thundercat and early Eminem. The track features an envelope following bassline and some light synth chords and melodies. Throw in some trap drums and a beautiful guitar solo (provided by my engineer). This track allowed me to further my versatility and technical ability dipping my toes into comedic rap.
The track is about dating apps and how much I’ve come to hate them during lockdown just so many cliches and how samey a lot of profiles are on there. I’ve been opting to keep my bio blank as I’ve definitely not got the height (5,5) to brag about or anything in there!
I build a storyline where I match with Snooki from Jersey Shore who I am a constant disappointment to from the moment we meet. I watched Jersey Shore growin up and used to listen to Pauly D’s music from it and it was just such an outrageous show. Other shows like South Park have even had sketches about it. There’s also that video where they turn Michael Cera into a Guido.
The cover art I commissioned and had the had the idea for was supposed to be based on both the track title and the line ‘I downed a bottle of fish oil and jumped off the roof of my crib’ as when I was young and I’d say loads of peoples parents did this they made you think Cod liver oil was like child steroids.
I tried to fill this track with funny bars to give it more re-listenability so the listener is always trying to catch different jokes each time they listen. I hope it gives you a little laugh and I’d love to hear back from you.
